On The Nature of The Self

Since the self has not been understood since the dawn or rise of species, this brief and simplified discernment is to further elaborate and clarify on or complement known knowledge and wisdom:

There are many ways to define the self, however since this is currently literally far out of or far beyond this known world complexity, experience, and imagination. the most simple and brief way to define the self is: real nature of being and becoming in the known physical world. And beyond facilitating by nature process of infinite potentialities of possibilities of "Dependent and Interdependent Origination" and "Dependent and Interdependent Arising".

In many traditions, such as Vedanta, Advaita Vedanta, Tao, Christianity, the self-existed as spirit-soul but lack attributes as well as epistemology and ontology. In other traditions such as Jainism and Buddhism, the self have attributes but was mistakenly or not properly interpreted as not a whole entity (due to complex as well as subtle and hidden nature of the many attributes and nature of non-duality). However, as in all traditions, lack scientific epistemology and ontology.

Core attributes to the self in tradition such as Jainism, and in particularly Buddhism are Flux, Impermeant, Emptiness, "Dependent and Interdependent Origination", and "Dependent and Interdependent Arising". And these non-dual metaphors contains much subtle and hidden epistemology and ontology which can only be understood through meaningful and essential or complementary scientific concept, methods, and empirical data. And therefore, about the nature and ground of being. And of nature. 

For example, emptiness has multiple meanings, and the core meaning is "nothing has its own intrinsic inherent independent existence". And as such, even through the attributes are answers or correct, they were also causes of confusion and misunderstanding of the nature of being and becoming or reason for metaphor "No-Self" or does not exist as whole entity. And in particularly beyond the known physical world. A simple way of saying is the philosophy is correct. The problems was due to misinterpretation (or false perception and experience of the world) or simply said, the sciences and complementary practices have not been developed.

While such attributes are not considered or parts of other traditions, and as such, the self is more obvious or as "Self". For example,  the self is considered as dual and permanent attributes (Advaita Vedanta is actually both dual and non-dual). And therefore, also caused much problems since the self such as heart-mind and form-formless are unknown in the known as well as beyond the known physical world. And the scientific method and empirical data would help reveal such mysteries or unknowing.

However or furthermore, the complications and progresses were also much causalities of forbidden and hidden knowledge and practices over the age. And as well as the many social and cultural constructs and engineering.

The self does exist as flux impermeant whole entity And as part of sum of parts of the greater whole in the known physical world. And beyond. And which were reasons for the many metaphors throughout the age such as "Seek Within" and "Know Thyself". And which could or best be explored through the scientific method and empirical data. And the human experience and reason.

And these are main reasons (beside such as fostering peace, friendship, and well being) for the revival of ancient wisdom lead by the Dalai Lama along with Tibetan, Indian, and collaborative scientific communities. And as well as friends and alliance. And complementary global community inspired and aspired initiatives and efforts across wisdom, scientific, philosophical, humanities traditions and practices such as (and embedded links):

In this video (toward the end of the video https://www.dalailama.com/videos/compassion-and-non-violence), the Dalai Lama expressed and affirmed that no-self is actually self (i.e. does not has its own inherent intrinsic independent existence) that is intertwined and entangled as part of sum of parts of the greater whole. Another way of saying is self does exist. However, only as part of sum of parts of the greater whole or as expressed through philosophies of "Dependent and Interdependent Origination" and "Dependent and Interdependent Arising". "Dependent and Interdependent Origination" and Dependent and Interdependent Arising" also express the process of being and becoming of parts of sum of parts of the greater whole or of All That Exist and Ever Exist or have many subtle and hidden meanings.
